Health Inequalities

Description

The ageing process that is unfolding in most contemporary societies around the world is characterized by (i) an increase in the prevalence of morbidity and multi-morbidity, and (ii) a delay in the ages at which individuals die. As a consequence, the health status of individuals living in those societies are becoming increasingly heterogeneous, a phenomenon that might contribute to the increase in the corresponding health inequalities. The research group “Health inequalities” aims at identifying, measuring and monitoring such inequalities, thus shedding light on a very important phenomenon that puts at risk the sustainability and cohesion in our societies. The scientific knowledge generated by the group aims to be useful in the elaboration of public policies towards the reduction or eradication of such inequalities.
